Recently, two Chinese were kidnapped and killed in the Philippines. Police from three countries have intervened in the investigation. Their families are still waiting for the autopsy results and the progress of the investigation.

The two victims were engaged in the medical device industry and belonged to different companies. One was a Chinese citizen (Xia) and the other was a Chinese American (Sun, 45 years old). They were kidnapped after arriving in the Philippines and were found dead on June 24.

On July 2, Ms. Yang, a family member of the murdered Chinese American Sun, learned that Sun went to the Philippines to expand his business and originally planned to stay for about 2 days. On June 20, Sun and Xia took flight PR359 to arrive in the Philippines. At around 6 pm that night, they sent a message to report that they were safe, but there was no response since then.

Ms. Yang said that that night, Sun's colleague also sent a message but received no reply. The next morning, Ms. Yang tried to call Sun but could not get through, and no one responded to her WeChat voice and message. Ms. Yang said that she learned from Xia's family that Xia was borrowing money from a friend.

Ms. Yang said that at about 4 p.m. on June 21, her husband Sun's colleague also received a call asking him to raise 15 million RMB, convert it into USDT virtual currency and transfer it to a designated account. Ms. Yang said that Sun and she had multiple voice calls later, with the last call occurring on the morning of June 23. The main content of the multiple calls during this period was fundraising, and another male voice speaking Chinese also appeared on Sun's phone.

She recalled that the other party once said, "Mr. Sun lost money here. If you don't pay, he will be taken away by the winner. I don't know what will happen." Ms. Yang said that she and Xia's family reported the case to the Chinese and Philippine police. She said that her family did not pay the ransom. Xia's family also received a similar call asking for money and paid a ransom of 3 million yuan. Then, the two families rushed to the Philippines.

On June 27, the family learned from the Philippine police that the police had found Sun and Xia murdered on June 24. The reporter was unable to contact Xia's family to confirm whether the ransom was paid.

Ms. Yang said that she learned from Sun's colleagues that Sun was invited by a Philippine distributor who called herself "Li Na". "Li Na" had provided an invitation letter from a medical company called Medev to invite Sun to discuss product distribution and other matters, but she did not know how Sun met "Li Na". Ms. Yang said that she had accompanied Sun on some of his work trips and had attended the EuroPCR conference in France with Sun. Sun and Xia met at the conference, but she did not meet "Li Na" at the conference.

On July 2, Ms. Yang said that the Chinese police, the Philippine police and the FBI have intervened and the three countries are jointly investigating, but the suspect has not yet been caught. "We are very angry and hope that no one will suffer from this again," Ms. Yang said.
