Matthew Sigel, head of digital asset research at VanEck, noted that the success of VanEck's application to issue a spot Solana ETF depends largely on the outcome of the 2024 presidential election and whether Gary Gensler continues to serve as chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

"Crypto voters may play a key role in this election. We have seen that the regulatory environment is changing at the level of elected officials. Several Democrats have voted in favor of cryptocurrency-related legislation." Sigel said.

Interestingly, Sigel agreed with SEC Chairman Gary Gensler’s recent comments that “Ethereum applications are progressing well,” adding, “This is probably the only time in three years that I agree with Gary Gensler.”
