On July 4th, miHoYo's "Zero" will be launched in public beta.

However, I can no longer go back to Web2 games.

I am also a medium-spending Genshin Impact player. Starting from September 15, 2022, I spent about 6000u in the first year (see the Genshin Impact character list, weapon list and several pictures I posted)

Since I started to use Axie Infinity in September 2021, I have been fascinated by blockchain games. I bought 7 Axies on Axie for 2000U, learned how to open a metamask wallet, buy ETH with a bank card, transfer E across chains to RONIN and Axie games to buy Axie's NFT, played in it for a few months, and earned 400 Smooth Love portion tokens.

What surprised me was that I could sell the characters I bought in the game at any time, and I could sell them immediately if I didn’t like them. Although my 7 axies were almost gone in the end, it was mainly because it was my first blockchain game and I didn’t understand that I should sell them in time when the economic system collapsed.

After further playing other blockchain games, I discovered (oh my god!) that there are player-autonomous organizations such as DAO. After purchasing game assets, you can vote based on your asset shares and have a say, which can influence the direction of game development and distribution and operation decisions. This is a future that ordinary players who have been ignored for many years should yearn for (although it is still far from being achieved now).

Can I sell the Hutao, Zhongli, Ganyu, and Childe I drew after recharging 648 RMB countless times in Genshin Impact? A new five-star grass character has been released, and the old five-star grass character has become useless. Can you exchange the old five-star character I drew after recharging 3 times for 648 RMB?

It’s not that Genshin Impact is not fun, I really like Genshin Impact, so I spent 6000u on it.

But my consumption mentality has completely changed in the past two years. 6000u is already my family's tuition, living expenses and mortgage for a month. I would have psychological barriers to spend more. But blockchain games are different. The money spent in blockchain games is an investment. Whenever I don't want to play this game, as long as the game is still there (no rugs), I can sell the characters I bought on the chain at any time. There is no psychological barrier to investing, especially buying assets in the early stages of blockchain game projects. If I see that the blockchain game project is reliable and respectable, and will not rug before the game coins are issued, my investment is safe. Before the blockchain game completely collapses, even if I sell the assets at a discount, it is better than not being able to sell them at all and not being able to withdraw them.

MiHoYo is undoubtedly an excellent game company. It has won numerous awards for Chinese game developers and has been respected by the overseas game industry (in the past, Chinese game developers copied and copied, signed a foreign masterpiece to be released in China, and then copied a game of the same type with a different skin a year later, which was looked down upon by the overseas game industry). By chance, I also know the founder of MiHoYo. Last year, when "Zero" was first closed beta, I went to ask for a code to participate in the beta. "Zero" will definitely be a fun game.

So when "Zero" is launched the day after tomorrow, I will definitely go in to play and spend money, but the amount of money I spend will not be too large.

This is not directed at "Zero" or miHoYo, but at all Web2 games: my mentality towards spending money has completely changed. If I play a Web2 game, I now only want to play the buyout version, pay once to buy a copy, experience the entire game plot and gameplay, and enjoy the entertainment.

Dear blockchain game players, do you have the same feeling? Please leave a message for the developers to see.

Web2 game developers, the mentality of gamers has changed. Blockchain games are eating into the market share of Web2 game players. Although it is still small now, blockchain games are like a Pixiu, attracting players and keeping them coming back. Once more Web2 players are exposed to more excellent blockchain games, they will gradually leave Web2 games. The amount of money spent by players who used to spend a lot of money on Web2 games will also drop dramatically. Have you seen this?
