The Bill on Amendments to the Capital Markets Law, which was passed by the Turkish Grand National Assembly on June 26, 2024, was accepted as the "Crypto Asset Law", commonly known as the "Crypto Asset Law".
The law stipulates that platforms that mediate the buying and selling of crypto assets will be licensed and regulated by the CMB. With this regulation, the security of customer assets will be ensured and the relations between platforms and customers will be regulated. Although there is no provision in the bill regarding taxation, CMB and TÜBİTAK will obtain certain amounts of income from crypto service providers. CMB and TÜBİTAK will receive 1% of these revenues from crypto service providers.
The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) decided to remove Turkey from the gray list at the meeting held in Singapore on June 28, 2024. Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek announced the decision with the message "We succeeded" on his social media account before the meeting.
According to the reports published by FATF, Jamaica, as well as Turkey, was removed from the gray list. FATF recognized the progress made by Turkey in its ability to address the strategic deficiencies identified in October 2021 and combat money laundering and the financing of terrorism.
