Cardano ($ADA ) developers immediately made security improvements after thwarting a spam attack on their blockchain network.
On June 25, the Cardano blockchain network faced a Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack starting from block 10,487,530.
The CTO of Fluid Tokens – Raul Antonio, explained that the attack was aimed at tricking the Cardano blockchain into charging lower fees for high-value transactions.
Additionally, if the attack is successful, the attacker could steal Cardano's staked tokens from the #blockchain. network.
Founder and CEO of Anastasia Labs – Philip Disarro, responded to the attack by saying, “The idea behind this attack is to take advantage,” continuing;
“From the fact that the size of the reference script currently has no impact on transaction fees, but it does impact the work validators have to do to process transactions.”
Cardano developers managed to defeat the attackers
Disarro and other Cardano developers managed to outsmart the attackers, reclaim stolen ADA tokens, and stop the DDoS attack.
The attacker finally stopped the #DDoS attack and had to be willing to lose his stolen assets because he failed to move the stolen funds.
Disarro mentioned that there are alternative methods to stop the attack, but his approach is the quickest.
He added, “If you rush to deploy something to production without thorough testing and high-quality independent audits.”
“You will probably lose a lot of money due to vulnerabilities like attackers do,” Disarro continued.
Intersect, a member-based organization for the Cardano ecosystem, confirmed the attack and thanked the developer community for its swift action against the DDoS attack.
Despite the attack, the Cardano blockchain network was not disrupted and continued to function normally. However, Intersect notes;
“The network has experienced higher than normal load and some stake pool operators (SPOs) have been negatively impacted due to the intensification in block height battles.”
Intersect assured that once the solution is thoroughly tested and implemented, they will share a new node version for SPO to improve.
The Intersect task force is working to identify and test solutions to further reduce the impact of such spam attacks.
