As ChainCatcher reported, three judges of the Civil Division of the Seoul High Court voted 19-3 in favor of the Fantom Foundation, which sued South Korean food tech startup SikSin and its CEO Byung-Ik Ahn, overturning the first-instance ruling of the Seoul Central District Court, dismissing all damages sought by the plaintiff and ordering the plaintiff to bear all litigation costs.
On July 23, 2019, Ahn and SikSin filed a lawsuit against Cayman Islands-based Fantom in the Seoul Central District Court, claiming that they had provided a number of services under a service agreement signed with Fantom. However, the Court of Appeal found that Ahn and SikSin not only failed to design a viable blockchain technology, but also committed plagiarism, which brought the Fantom project "to the brink of collapse." On May 27, 2022, the Seoul Central District Court ruled that Ahn and SikSin were awarded all relief, but Fantom was not aware of this.
