The official Twitter account of the legendary American heavy metal band Metallica was hacked on Wednesday (June 26), and the hacker used it to promote the METAL meme coin and induce fans and investors to buy it. After the news came out, the price soared 6,000% in just 15 minutes, but after the official clarification, the price of the coin quickly fell back sharply.

Metallica's official Twitter account has 6 million followers. It is the world's first thrash metal band. In the late 1970s, heavy metal music was at its peak in the European and American rock music scene, and the emergence of thrash metal at this time hit the music scene like a torrent. The founder of this genre was Metallica, which was formed in Los Angeles, USA in 1981. The group was undoubtedly the most outstanding and influential heavy metal band in the world in the 1980s.

However, hackers used the metal band’s official Twitter account to frequently post messages to promote the Solana chain’s fraudulent token METAL, inducing fans and investors to buy it.

The hacker tweeted through the official account of Metal Products, claiming that METAL was launched in cooperation with ticketing platform giant Ticketmaster and Web3 financial technology company MoonPay, and that METAL holders will enjoy discounts when purchasing concert tickets and merchandise.

The perpetrators further promoted that users could redeem METAL tokens for exclusive items, including free concert tickets, customized gaming consoles, and merchandise, and even claimed that METAL would provide staking returns.

The metal band later retweeted MoonPay, confirming the hack.

Although the relevant scam tweets were deleted within 1 hour and 30 minutes, the hacker seems to have made huge profits in a short period of time. After the news of the hack was released, the METAL token quickly fell back and currently fell to $0.00001540.
