This is what Bitcoin represents for the citizens of Turkey, Egypt, Nigeria, Argentina, Lebanon and Pakistan. A combined population of 725 MILLION people. Try to convince them that Bitcoin is not useful.
Why don't generation Z (people born between 60 and 70) accept cryptocurrencies?
I'm sure that in your family there is the famous "land uncle" who laughs at you every time you tell him that you invest in Bitcoin and that cryptocurrencies are the future. Or worse, they accuse us of messing with the "wrong thing" and losing money in a pyramid scheme. For them, only fixed income investments and real estate are actually investments.
For me, there are basically two answers: generalist media and fear of everything that has not yet been validated over time.
It is obvious that the media generates fear by propagating an exaggerated narrative and distorting reality. Who remembers the Fantástico article? By the way, even younger people who should have a more open mind, were blinded into believing that cryptocurrencies are used for crimes and the users who transact only have illegal intentions. I came across a lot of misinformation posted by young people online after the article was shown.
In other words, unfortunately the media manipulates not only the elderly, but also any young person who does not have a critical sense and interest in seeking knowledge. This factor is added to the lack of trust as it is something new and has not yet burst the bubble of our crypto community.
In my opinion, Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies have already proven to be reliable and an excellent investment opportunity. However, we content creators still have the hard work of combating misinformation and ignorant people, providing knowledge for free.
Who knows, at Christmas dinner, we'll make the local uncle see that Bitcoin is the future? haha ha
