As Julian Assange's days in prison come to an end, members of an on-chain movement are demanding transparency around the funds raised for his defense. After the WikiLeaks founder was released from Belmarsh prison on Tuesday, AssangeDAO (JUSTICE) token rose over 60% in 24 hours. Assange was detained in a British high-security facility for more than 1,900 days for an alleged violation of the US Espionage Act. Assange supporters demand spending report. The decentralized autonomous organization (DAO), which met in December 2021, worked together in an effort to provide financial support for Assange's defense. According to Silke Noa, one of the DAO's core participants, donors raised 16,593 Ether (ETH), which is over $56 million at current market prices. The Wau Holland Foundation managed and distributed approximately $37 million of the money raised through a Safe (formerly Gnosis) multi-signature address, but a full accounting of expenses was not disclosed. Assange is known as an early investor in Bitcoin (BTC) and believes the cryptocurrency offers an alternative means of investment and payment. The fact that Assange's release was partially supported by a DAO initiative further emphasizes cryptocurrency's role as a catalyst for real-world change. 🚀#Assange#AssangeDAO #Justicetoken
