Following the experience of “The Exorcist” and “Renfiel” produced on Aptos, NBCUniversal will continue to work with Aptos Labs in the coming years.

Entertainment giant NBCUniversal, which launched several blockchain-based projects on Aptos last year, has now agreed to a long-term partnership with Aptos Labs to continue building fan experiences and games based on its IP through the network.

The two companies shared the news exclusively with Decrypt on Thursday, describing it as a multi-year alliance and "long-term strategic development agreement" that will see Aptos Labs assist the media giant in its continued exploration of blockchain-based apps, games, and loyalty programs.

"Today's media and entertainment landscape is changing rapidly, with fan experiences and preferences driving more change than ever before," Greg Reed, vice president of technology partnerships at Universal Pictures, said in a press release. "Our multi-year partnership with Aptos Labs will help us deepen our relationship with fans so we can create and deliver more media and entertainment experiences that audiences crave."

NBCUniversal, owned by Comcast, is the conglomerate behind numerous film, television, and multimedia brands, including the NBC television network, DreamWorks, and Peacock. It also owns a vast array of intellectual property across various media formats and will continue to build blockchain experiences around these properties and brands.

In 2023, NBCUniversal partnered with Aptos Labs to launch an Aptos game inspired by Nicolas Cage's film Renfield, as well as a fan experience related to The Exorcist: The Following.

The company has also conducted blockchain activities with other partners in the past, including a 2022 collaboration with crypto payments startup MoonPay on a scavenger hunt at Universal Studios parks featuring millions of NFTs.

NBCUniversal also partnered with Variant3D to create Classic Monsters apparel with NFT “digital twins” that same year, and released NFTs based on the films Back to the Future: Part II and Scott Pgrilim vs. the World through other platforms.

“Our goal is to deliver world-class, internet-grade blockchain products and solutions to the market,” said Mo Shaikh, co-founder and CEO of Aptos Labs, in a press release. “We look forward to working with NBC Universal to explore ways to deepen fan relationships and deliver unique entertainment experiences using the Aptos Blockchain.”
