Every day, cryptocurrencies reshape our global financial landscape, impacting the lives of millions of people around the world, with each transaction building a path towards a more connected future. In 2010, programmer Laszlo Hanyecz sparked a revolution when he traded two pizzas for 10,000 BTC, beginning the journey of real-world cryptocurrency transactions. These days, digital assets have become a trillion-dollar industry, driven by a diverse range of participants across the world. However, it is the people behind the scenes who drive this transformation.

Users are at the forefront of Binance's mission, driving every decision we make. This past Bitcoin Pizza Day, we pay tribute to those who tirelessly strive to shape a more inclusive and accessible financial ecosystem. Among them is Cynthia, Product Manager at Binance, whose dedication embodies our commitment to serving users around the world.

Proud of the product manager

As a Product Manager, Cynthia develops simple payment solutions for millions of users around the world. She works to bring more users into the crypto world by helping them understand the monetary freedom that cryptocurrencies offer, directly embodying our user-focused culture. By creating products that demonstrate the utility of cryptocurrencies, their work is fueling the future of Web3 adoption. “Product Managers are like mothers,” she explains. “All your products are like your babies.” Seeing the products you create positively impact users and make their journey easier inspires a sense of pride and accomplishment.

Cynthia's colleagues describe her as humble and hardcore, qualities that help her thrive in Binance's dynamic environment. "When facing various challenges and difficulties at work, I need to remain calm and focused, using professional knowledge and skills to solve problems", comments Cynthia. “This allows me to take on more responsibilities and challenges on the project, and partners can trust me more.”

The precipice of a new world

A mix of curiosity and passion led her to Web3; her experiences in the payments industry led Cynthia to believe in blockchain’s ability to change the world. Binance's vision of leveraging digital assets to foster global monetary freedom shined in showing the way. The organization's leadership position and a culture that harmonized with her own beliefs led her to join the movement.

Join Binance

Upon starting her new role on the Binance Pay team in June 2021, she began to get used to a fast-paced environment. Here, building an open and united team spirit is essential, as Cynthia would soon discover. With the support of his teammates, he was able to integrate into workflows seamlessly. The trust she placed in her colleagues helped foster confidence in herself and she quickly found herself overcoming gaps in her knowledge. This motivated and collaborative attitude made her an integral part of the team soon after starting.

Cynthia remembers that moving to a new country, to join Binance, also presented new obstacles – climate, language and even the currency. Upon arrival, I had not yet purchased any local fiat currency. Tired, wanting a little comfort to relax from the journey, she bought a cup of coffee using crypto. Just like Laszlo Hanyecz in 2010, and many others after him, Cynthia was experiencing the convenience of cryptocurrencies in life's everyday joys, be it coffee or pizza. As he described it: “I don’t want to be limited by local fiat currencies when traveling. Exchanging one fiat currency for another can be a troublesome process, and cryptocurrencies make life much more convenient and free.”

Curious people like Cynthia tend to tackle new challenges as quickly as cryptocurrency payments. She embraced her new circumstances with an open mind and came to appreciate the vibrant charm and diversity of her new city, turning her adjustment into an exciting journey.

At Binance, we have a saying that “one year of work here is equal to three years of work elsewhere.” True to this maxim, after just a few months, Cynthia already felt like she had been working at Binance for a long time. Navigating the twists and turns of the crypto world with a group of fellow enthusiasts gave her a sense of contributing to something bigger. Plus, working remotely meant you had the independence to choose your own way of working and living flexibly, while also having the space to really shine and grow in your field.

Maintain motivation through challenges

Colleague trust and connection foster a deeper team spirit, which is Cynthia's main motivation. As she herself says, "professional knowledge and trust in partners are essential for success."

Having this robust support network to fall back on allows her to thrive in the role. Striking the right balance between autonomy and teamwork, this environment is a testament to team leadership and the bonds that Cynthia and her colleagues have built.

Driven by the broader vision

On the weekends, Cynthia likes to get together with friends to play board games in which she has to solve the murder mystery. Her passion for these games, where she nimbly changes characters and unravels mysteries, is a metaphor for her dynamic role at Binance. Just as her hobby requires adaptability, her work requires her to use several “skins” – that of a user, that of an analyst, that of a designer and many others.

Binance's vibrant culture of user-centricity and collaboration is embodied in the efforts of professionals like Cynthia. At the heart of this rapidly evolving space, she turns challenges into opportunities, working to develop simple payment solutions and greater adoption and utility for cryptocurrencies. As we celebrate another Bitcoin Pizza Day, we recognize the great advances made since the first real-world cryptocurrency transaction and the enormous contributions to this process, inspiring Web3 professionals like Cynthia. As we continue to advance this remarkable cryptocurrency transformation together, Binancers like Cynthia are striving for a future where the freedom of money is a tangible reality for everyone.
