Telegram game Hamster Fighter sees explosive growth, surpassing 150 million players

Telegram-based crypto gaming hit Hamster Kombat claimed on Friday that its player base is now larger than the population of Russia — more than 150 million players.

The growth is 50% higher than last week, when the game’s developers said they had passed the 100 million user mark. In a sense, this means that almost one in five Telegram users have signed up for the game, which incentivizes players to grow their virtual cryptocurrency exchange by offering real cryptocurrency rewards.

These rewards will be distributed to players who accumulate points in the game in the form of an airdrop of final tokens - the token exists in the form of a mini-program in the popular messaging app Telegram, with no additional download required. Last week, Hamster Kombat team members hinted that the airdrop is currently scheduled for July.

It is undeniable that the game has attracted a lot of attention on Telegram. The Hamster Kombat announcement channel on Telegram is the most popular channel on the app, with more than 35 million subscribers.

The game's YouTube channel currently has about 23 million subscribers, and its Twitter account has 7.7 million followers. Each account has seen significant growth in follower numbers over the past week.

Hamster Kombat’s success is largely due to its spiritual predecessor, Notcoin, another in-app Telegram game backed by cryptocurrency, which gained a loyal following by offering lucrative token airdrops to players.

The Notcoin airdrop was launched on May 16 and attracted widespread attention; since then, the value of the token NOT has been growing, with a market value of over $2 billion last week. According to data, NOT is currently one of the top 60 cryptocurrencies by market value.

Telegram Games 'Tapswap' and 'Yescoin' Launch Tokens on Open Web

First came Notcoin — the largest gaming token issued so far in 2024 — and then the hot Hamster Kombat, which is built on the Telegram clicker model and is about to conduct a token airdrop. Now, a pair of rising Telegram games have also revealed plans to bring their projects to The Open Network (TON) and will issue tokens. Tapswap and Yescoin, both simple games playable through mini-apps on the Telegram messaging platform, revealed their launch plans in separate announcements on Thursday…

Toncoin, the native token of Telegram’s favored blockchain, The Open Network (TON), also appears to be benefiting from Hamster Kombat’s success. The token hit an all-time high of $8.13 on Friday. It is up more than 26% in the past two weeks.

The initial success of Notcoin and Hamster Kombat seems to have attracted more potential successors. Yesterday, two other Telegram-based games — Tapswap and Yescoin — announced plans to launch on TON soon, both with token airdrop ambitions.
