Optimism developers have implemented error proofs into smart contracts.
Optimism users were able to independently initiate the withdrawal procedure for ETH and ERC-20 tokens “without the participation of any trusted third parties.” In other words, challenge potentially fraudulent or incorrect transactions.
Previously, in OP Mainnet, users had to trust operators to convey accurate state roots to the mainnet.
The Optimism Security Council can intervene and return the system to an authorized state if it fails as part of a responsible deployment. Additional guarantees allow the structure to effectively resolve errors, including resetting the withdrawal procedure if necessary.
Many teams worked on creating and testing the system, including OP Labs, Base, a16z crypto, Test in Prod.
It is expected that the innovation will be extended to other chains based on the OP Stack such as Base, Metal, Mode and Zora.
The launch of open source functionality marked the implementation of the first stage of decentralization of OP Mainnet and OP Stack. The developers called it a big step forward towards Superchain.
The product implements the concept of horizontal scalability through the construction of a “blockchain network”. The latter use unified solutions such as bridges, decentralized control, communication layers and much more based on the OP Stack.
The concept involves combining the OP Mainnet with other chains within Superchain into a single network.
Most optimistic rollup solutions have not yet taken networks to the next level by introducing proof of error and supporting decentralized contract renewal. The main competitor, Arbitrum, also previously integrated a similar system.
Let’s remember that in May the Optimism team added support for L3 solutions to the OP Stack.
In April, cLabs, the company behind the Celo L1 blockchain, announced that it had chosen OP Stack to migrate to the second layer of Ethereum.
In the same month, Sam Altman's Worldcoin project announced the launch of its own L2 network, World Chain, based on the software stack from Optimism.
