According to Foresight News, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik has voiced his dissatisfaction with the current trend of celebrities issuing MEME coins. He stated that while financialization can be a means to an end, he only respects it when the end goal is worthwhile, such as healthcare, open-source software, or art. However, he expressed distaste for financialization as an end product.
Vitalik further compared the current trend to Ashton and Mila's 'Stoner Cats', stating that the latter is much more honorable as it at least resulted in a real show being funded. He ended his statement by questioning how things could be steered in a better direction. This statement comes amidst a growing trend of celebrities issuing their own digital currencies, often in the form of MEME coins.
