According to TechFlow, a group of US lawmakers asked President Joe Biden to bring Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan back to the United States after being detained in Nigeria for nearly three months.
They feared that Gambaryan was being held hostage and might have malaria.
House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) and 11 other leaders wrote to President Biden, Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Roger D. Carstens, the special presidential envoy for hostage affairs, urging the president to treat the case of Gambarian, a U.S. citizen and head of compliance at Binance, as a hostage situation and bring him back to the United States.
