ZkSync Ethereum Layer 2 network developer Matter Labs has announced that it is abandoning efforts to trademark the term "ZK". This decision came with the idea that it was "impossible" to agree on a group of people whose term "ToM" was perceived as neutral by almost everyone. Matter Labs had previously applied to trademark the term zero knowledge (ZK) in nine countries, which led to a conflict with Polyhedra Network. This led industry players to support Polyhedra, with the argument that Matter Labs would privatize a public resource. As the backlash mounted, Matter Labs dropped its trademark plans and explained that what worked within the Ethereum ecosystem would not necessarily be valid or effective globally, given the diverse perspectives, interests, and stakeholders. 🌐🚫
