The WAX Inspector General nomination period ends on June 7th, and it’s time to once again draw attention to the WAX Office of Inspector General election. Voting will take place on the Office of Inspector General (OIG) website at oig.wax.io, and currently supports WAX Cloud Wallet, Anchor, and Wombat. If you want to use a Ledger Hardware wallet, you will need to link it to your Anchor wallet first.

How to vote

Starting June 10, 2024, you will be able to vote for any candidate in the election. If you don't know who to vote for yet, don't worry, there's still time to make up your mind, but make sure to cast your vote before the voting ends at 17:59:59 UTC on June 14 / 01:59:59 BJT on June 15. You are free to change your mind and vote for a different candidate before the voting ends. Each WAX account can only vote for one candidate. As a Delegated Proof of Stake blockchain, WAX OIG elections are based on stake weight, and only owned tokens are counted, not staked ones. Due to technical limitations, if you delegate to other accounts, only the first 100 delegations from your account will be counted.

Remember, you can unstake your $WAXP and re-deposit it to your own account without having to wait for the three-day unstaking period; the $WAXP will appear in your account immediately.

Election Process

If you are new to what the Office of the Inspector General is, what the Office of the Inspector General does, and what it takes to become an Inspector General, be sure to read our “WAX Office of the Inspector General” article and visit the OIG website.

If you have any questions or comments, please join the Official WAX Governance Telegram channel, the Official WAX Discord, or our bi-weekly roundtable.

If you think you have what it takes to be a part of the OIG and WAX ecosystem, or know someone who does, nominations are still open.

Responsibilities of the Inspector General

While we encourage every suitable candidate to "run for the position," we need to point out that becoming an Inspector General is not a decision to be taken lightly.

Serving on the OIG for 18 months is a significant commitment. The Inspector General is a full-time position with compensation in line with the Standby Guild, which fluctuates based on the price of WAXP.

If you read the introduction to the OIG, you’ll see that the Inspector General must have a variety of skills. While some knowledge can be acquired “on the job” and the skills of the Inspectors General can complement each other, the position of Inspector General requires a certain level of understanding of blockchain technology and blockchain governance, as well as a certain level of experience. In addition, the Inspector General must be able to be proactive and work independently.

On a personal level, the Inspector General needs to maintain an objective and level head, possess the ability to communicate clearly, and remain calm even under great pressure or malicious personal attacks.

Election requirements:

  • Candidates for Inspector General may not run for a Guild candidate, nor have a direct relationship with any current Guild candidate to prevent conflicts of interest. Any recent or ongoing business relationship with a Guild candidate should be disclosed.

  • To proceed to the voting phase, there must be at least two candidates.

  • An election is considered successful only if it reaches a certain voter participation threshold. (Currently defined as 15 million votes)

  • The winning candidate receives at least 8 million WAX votes.

If any of the above criteria has not been met, the election process will be repeated until a clear result is determined.

In the coming days, you can learn about the candidates, where they stand, and what they plan to contribute to the Office of Inspector General.

But most importantly, please cast your vote: oig.wax.io

Every vote counts!
