PANews reported on May 31 that DMM Bitcoin, a crypto exchange under Japan's DMM.com Group, issued an announcement: "Around 13:26 (Japan time) on May 31, 2024, we detected unauthorized outflow of Bitcoin (BTC) from our wallet. Although we have taken measures to prevent unauthorized leaks, we have also implemented restrictions on the use of certain services to ensure additional security."

DMM Bitcoin also stated: "The details of the loss are still under investigation, but the current situation is as follows: Regarding the outflow of crypto assets, the amount of Bitcoin illegally leaked from our wallet was found to be 4,502.9 BTC (equivalent to approximately 48.2 billion yen, approximately 300 million US dollars). We will purchase Bitcoin equivalent to the outflow with the support of group companies and guarantee all funds held by customers in Bitcoin. DMM Bitcoin has now restricted the following functions: new user account opening, crypto asset withdrawals, suspension of spot trading buy orders, and suspension of new leveraged trading position orders (only settlement orders are accepted). Matters regarding the resumption of services will be notified separately."
