What happens after Trump is convicted?

Judge Juan Merschamp will sentence him on July 11. This is just days before the Republican National Convention on July 15, where the party will formally select Trump as its presidential candidate for the November 5 election. Merschamp said Trump could remain at large until sentencing.

Defendants convicted of felonies are usually sentenced to prison, but the law does not require them to serve time. Especially since the former president is 77 years old, a first-time offender, and has no criminal record, it makes sense to be lenient. Trump may also be required to pay some form of financial penalty.

How long will Trump likely be in prison?

Each count is a Class E felony, with a sentence of 1 1/2 to 4 years. Since Trump was convicted of multiple counts, he can be sentenced to multiple counts concurrently, meaning the former president would serve all of his sentences at the same time.
