Why Manta Pacific can overtake zkSync
As the first Ethereum Layer2 network with ZkEVM, how did Manta achieve its technical path? How did it overtake others and land zkSync, which was known to the market earlier, in advance?
Manta Network actually has two networks: Manta Pacific and Manta Atlantic. Manta Pacific is a Layer2 network with ZkEVM on Ethereum, and Manta Atlantic is a ZK L1 chain on Polkadot. This article focuses on the Manta Pacific network of Manta Network.
The Manta Pacific mainnet uses zkEVM to achieve maximum performance, scalability and user security by using Polygon CDK and Celestia's data availability (DA). From the Manta Pacific roadmap, it can be divided into four parts: Manta Pacific Alpha (Ethereum L2), Manta Pacific Alpha II (+Celestia DA), Manta Pacific Beta (+transition to zkEVM), Manta Pacific production-level mainnet I (+general circuit 2.0).
Manta Pacific Alpha (Ethereum L2) is an Optimistic Rollup based on Ethereum. By leveraging the Universal Circuits of the Manta network, developers can quickly build, test and deploy ZK (zero-knowledge proof)-enabled applications using only Solidity and the Universal Circuit SDK. In the Manta Pacific Alpha II (+Celestia DA) phase, Manta Pacific will achieve data expansion by integrating Celestia's modular data availability (DA), significantly reducing the gas fees for users to interact with dApps within the Manta Pacific ecosystem. In the Manta Pacific Beta (+transition to zkEVM) phase, it fully transitions to zkEVM by leveraging Polygon CDK. In the Manta Pacific production-level mainnet I (+Universal Circuit 2.0) phase, Manta Pacific upgrades the Universal Circuit to achieve lower gas costs and support more use cases.
The initial total supply of MANTA tokens is 1 billion MANTA, with an annual increase of 2% starting from the initial issuance of tokens. MANTA token holders can vote on Manta Pacific and Manta Atlantic network governance decisions. In the Manta Pacific network, MANTA token holders can benefit from sequencer revenue and gas fee savings from modular DA (data availability). The initial funding revenue of the sequencer belongs to the Manta Foundation for redistribution.
