They Solved the Forgotten Password in 2013 and Found Bitcoin Worth $3 Million

People who were looking for a cryptocurrency wallet whose password was lost years ago came across the good news of Bitcoin.

Two researchers regained access to a crypto wallet whose password was lost years ago. 43.6 Bitcoins, worth approximately $3 million at current prices, were found inside the wallet.

An anonymous person, simply referred to as Michael, used RoboFarm to open a cryptocurrency wallet and set a password for it in 2013. The person stored his password in an encrypted file, not in RoboForm. However, because the file was corrupted, he could no longer access the 20-character password.

Michael contacted Joe Grand to regain access to the password. Grand, a hardware hacker, had also found Bitcoins hidden in a Trezor wallet in the past. According to a video on the subject, Grand took advantage of a bug in RoboForm that was fixed in 2015 but affected wallets before that date.

Researchers discovered a vulnerability in the random number algorithm that RoboForm uses when generating passwords. This algorithm assigned the password to the day and time recorded on the user's computer at the time the password was created.

It was determined that Michael transferred Bitcoin to his wallet on April 13, 2013. After testing with criteria suitable for this date, the password of the wallet created on May 15, 2013 was found.

Some of the Bitcoins were given to Grand and Bruno, who helped him. Having sold a small portion of them, Michael still has 30 Bitcoins. Michael said he won't sell until the Bitcoin price reaches $100,000.
