SEC Chairman Criticized Cryptocurrencies

US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Gary Gensler criticized cryptocurrencies.

SEC Chairman Gensler said at the event he attended today that there is "a lot of fraud" in the cryptocurrency industry.

Stating that there are between 15 and 20 thousand tokens in the market, Gensler stated that most of them do not comply with US laws.

The SEC is expected to make a decision regarding spot Ethereum ETFs today. Gensler said not every cryptocurrency is a security, but most fit that definition.

The SEC had approved spot ETFs, deciding that Bitcoin was a commodity, not a security. The institution's decision regarding Ethereum is not yet known.
