[OpenSea launches the “Get Based” series based on Ethereum L2 and provides free NFT Drop]
As the popularity of Coinbase's Base continues to grow, NFT marketplace OpenSea has launched a "Get Based" series of events focusing on the network and its artists, and releasing free or low-cost digital artwork.
The series kicks off this Thursday with a re-creation of artwork from the classic film “Endless Summer” by OpenSea employee and artist Carty Sewell. The “Get Based” series plans to showcase the work of up to 15 artists over the summer.
Weekly releases will be made via the OpenSea website and social media protocol Farcaster, with each open edition available for $5 or less, with some even free.
Artists and projects participating in "Get Based" include RGB Punks creator Jhekub, "Primitives" creator Hun, meme artist Cryptic Poet, X "Fail Whale" creator Yiying Lu, illustrator Subwway, and the recent free release on OpenSea Base NFT with a total mint count of over 181,000 Thank You Base God.
Base has become a focus for OpenSea in recent months as the market embraces an on-chain NFT scene that doesn’t yet have high-value collectibles, unlike first-tier chains like Ethereum mainnet or Solana. The “Get Based” program serves as an introduction to emerging artists on Base and helps collectors understand the chain. OpenSea provides native cross-chain functionality for cross-chain assets to Base, and supports fiat currency and credit card purchases through MoonPay integration.
OpenSea co-founder and CEO Devin Finzer told Decrypt: "The Base ecosystem has become a new catalyst for innovation and creativity using NFTs. We have supported Base since its inception, and we are excited to showcase emerging artists with unique artistic styles and Expand their influence in the larger NFT community.”
The “Get Based” series will run concurrently with Base’s upcoming “On-Chain Summer II” promotion, which will begin on June 3 and offer more than 600 Ethereum (approximately $2.3 million) in bonuses, incentives and Gas subsidies covering various projects and agreements. OpenSea participated in last year’s promotion and is a launch partner of Base.
