Bitcoin Celebrates ‘Pizza Day’- Here's How the Legendary Trade Happens
On this day in 2010, Laszlo Hanyecz, a software developer from Florida, made history when he bought two pizzas for 10,000 Bitcoin.
This is the first commercial transaction made with the help of this native cryptocurrency.
The request to buy pizza with Bitcoin was posted by Laszlo five days before the actual transaction on the legendary BitcoinTalk forum.
With the current Bitcoin price of around $70,000, these two Papa John's pizzas would be worth more than $700 million. Fourteen years ago, these pizzas were worth just $41.
The value of the Bitcoins spent to purchase these pizzas is also known as the Bitcoin Pizza Index.
The community now celebrates Bitcoin Pizza Day on May 22 to commemorate this historic transaction.
