The helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi had a 'hard landing' on May 19, according to local media.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.

Iran's Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi reportedly confirmed that the helicopter carrying Mr. Raisi made a difficult landing in the city of Jolfa in Iran's northwestern province of East Azarbaijan.

Several other senior officials, including Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and East Azarbaijan Governor Malek Rahmati, accompanied the president, according to the sources.

About an hour after the incident, rescue teams reached the area and began a search operation.

IRNA news agency said foggy weather and difficult travel conditions in the area had made search operations difficult.

Iran's news agency quoted the head of the country's Red Crescent Organization as saying the number of rescue teams sent to the area had increased from 20 to 40 teams.

Immediately after the first reports of the incident, Mehr news agency reported that the president was fine and was traveling by car in a motorcade to Tabriz, the provincial capital. However, they later removed this update.

Amid conflicting information, Tasnim news agency said there were 3 helicopters in Mr. Raisi's group. 2 of them carrying a number of ministers and officials reached their destination safely.
