The annual U.S. inflation rate in April 2024 fell to 3.4% from 3.5% in March, the highest level since September, in line with market forecasts. Compared with the previous month, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 0.3%, lower than 0.4% in the previous two months and the forecast of 0.4%. The housing index rose in April, and the gasoline index also rose.

The two indexes together accounted for more than 70% of the monthly increase in the full-item index. At the same time, the core inflation rate slowed to 3.6% year-on-year, the lowest level since April 2021, down from 3.8% in March and February. The monthly rate also fell from 0.4% to 0.3%, in line with forecasts.
