OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever announced on Tuesday that he is leaving the Microsoft-backed startup.
“I am very excited about what lies ahead – a project that is truly meaningful to me and I will share details about it at the appropriate time,” Sutskever wrote in an X post on Tuesday.
This departure comes months after OpenAI went through a leadership crisis involving co-founder and CEO Sam Altman.
In November, OpenAI's Board of Directors stated that Altman had not “always been forthright in his communications with the board.” The problem quickly became more complicated. On Tuesday, Altman shared his thoughts on Sutskever's passing.

In 2015, Altman and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, another co-founder of OpenAI, wanted Sutskever, then a research scientist at Google, to become the new startup's chief scientist, according to lawsuit Musk filed against OpenAI in March.
