Fed officials say they don't rule out a rate hike. Is this playing hard to get? Should we raise rates quickly?
Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari said the Fed is likely to keep rates unchanged "for an extended period of time" until officials are confident that inflation is on target.
If inflation starts to fall, or if we see clear weakness in the labor market, that could lead to a rate cut. If we eventually become convinced that inflation is fixed at 3%, that's not the most likely scenario - and the bar for a rate hike is pretty high - but it won't be ruled out.
