Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey has left the board of directors of Bluesky, the decentralized social media platform he conceived and funded while serving as Twitter CEO in 2019. Jack Dorsey himself revealed the news on X in response to a community question.

At the same time, the official Bluesky account also confirmed the news of Jack Dorsey’s departure on its platform and stated that it was looking for new board members and thanked Jack Dorsey for his help in launching and funding the project. However, neither Bluesky nor Jack Dorsey have explained why he decided to leave.

Jack Dorsey announced Bluesky's new project in late 2019, tweeting at the time that the company "funded a small independent team of five open source architects, engineers, and designers to develop an open and decentralized Centralized Social Media Standards". Bluesky won’t launch in beta until March 2023, and will be available to the public on February 7, 2024. According to its own statistics, it currently has around 5.6 million users.
