Class action lawsuit filed against Cristiano Ronaldo for promoting Binance

A class action lawsuit against soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo has been filed in Florida district court. Investors claim they suffered losses when purchasing his NFT "CR7"

According to the lawsuit, Cristiano Ronaldo actively participated in the offering and selling of unregistered securities on the Binance trading platform. In mid-2022, Binance partnered with Ronaldo to promote several of his non-fungible token (NFT) collections. The plaintiffs claim that users who signed up for the exchange because of Ronaldo's NFT were more likely to use Binance for other purposes.

The Cristiano Ronaldo NFT collection was released on November 18, 2022 (9:00 UTC), and includes seven animated images of different levels of rarity: Super Super Rare (SSR), Super Rare (SR), Rare (R) and Normal (N). Each NFT features iconic moments from Ronaldo's life, from his signature scissor kicks to footage from his childhood in Portugal.

The CR7 Surprise Box was available to the first 1.5 million Binance users who registered with code #RONALDO .
