What does altcoin mean?
Altcoins (alternative coins) is a term used to describe all cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoin (BTC -5.34%). Their name comes from the fact that they're alternatives to Bitcoin and traditional fiat money. The first altcoins launched in 2011, and, by now, there are thousands of them.
