I read interesting things in Satoshi Nakamoto and Malmi's conversation 😁
I will summarize it a little here.
Nakamoto doesn't seem bothered by the idea of significant energy being dedicated to the Bitcoin network. He wrote that even “if the bank were to grow and consume large amounts of energy,” this would be less “wasteful” than the resources spent on “conventional banking activities.”
He further stated:
The costs would be far less than the billions in banking fees that go into paying for all the brick-and-mortar buildings, skyscrapers and junk mail credit card offers.”
Nakamoto also created an early distinction between anonymous and pseudonymous — or partially anonymous — transactions. He anticipates controversy surrounding transaction analysis, which is now a core business for companies like Chainalysis and Elliptic.
Nakamoto wrote at the time:
I think we should de-emphasize the anonymous point of view… we can't give the impression that [Bitcoin] is automatically anonymous. It's possible to use a pseudonym, but... If someone digs into transaction history and starts disclosing information that is considered anonymous, the fallout will be much worse if we don't prepare expectations..."
