The most outstanding

  • The Binance Women in Technology Academy, organized in collaboration with the Women in Technology Association (WTech), has expanded its training programs to reach women in earthquake-affected areas of Turkey.

  • Held in the city of Hatay on March 26 and 27, the educational series hosted 80 young women from the earthquake zone.

  • The Academy was created to increase the presence of women in the fields of cryptocurrencies, blockchain and Web3, promoting gender equality in the sector and contributing to the growth of the high-tech sector of the Turkish economy.

With the aim of promoting equal opportunities in the cryptocurrency sector and increasing women's financial knowledge, Binance has collaborated with the Turkish Women in Technology Association (Wtech) to launch the Binance Women in Technology Academy. By bringing its educational programs to Hatay, the academy reached young university students living in areas affected by the earthquake.

The program, which took place in the Hatay district of Antakya on March 26 and 27, 2024, offered training sessions on financial literacy, blockchain technology, artificial intelligence, NFT, cybersecurity and much more to equip the female students of the knowledge and skills necessary to participate in the world of Web3. At the end of the program, certificates were given to the 80 participants. Additionally, Binance provided 270 Ramadan food packages to families living in the container city where the courses were held.

Prepare women to lead

The Binance Women in Technology Academy, which launched in January 2024, has just completed its 8-week pilot program, graduating its first cohort of students. The collaboration between Binance and Wtech aims not only to introduce young women to the world of technology, but also to provide them with leadership opportunities both in their professional careers and in society. The initiative aims to increase the presence of women in the fields of cryptocurrencies, blockchain and Web3, addressing gender inequality in the sector. Following the success of their initial cohort of 50 students, the team decided to bring the program to Hatay.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony at the end of the two-day intensive educational series in Hatay, Mücahit Dönmez, CEO of Binance Turkey, emphasized Binance's help following the February 6 earthquake: “At Binance Turkey We have taken important steps to show our support for the earthquake victims. Binance donated $100 worth of BNB to each of its users in earthquake-affected areas of the country. Additionally, donations raised through Binance Charity were sent to the Turkish Red Crescent to support earthquake victims, and thanks to our donation to AHBAP, steel houses were built and used as schools.”

Turkey is not only a country with a cryptocurrency adoption rate of around 40%, but also one of the world leaders in terms of popular enthusiasm for cryptocurrencies and new technologies. However, as Dönmez highlighted, despite the positive global trend in gender equality in the cryptocurrency sector in recent years, inequality persists. Binance is committed to promoting equality and diversity both within the company and across the ecosystem. Our mission goes beyond education, and we aim to empower our students to shape the future by giving them value.

«More than an educational program»

Zehra Öney, founding president of the Women in Technology Association and partner of the Binance Women in Technology Academy, also spoke at the ceremony, saying: “As Women in Technology Association, our main goal has always been to train expert and competent people. in the field of technology and carry out focused efforts on increasing the number of women in the workplace, production processes and entrepreneurship. This program aroused great interest. With this program, we have made a good start in training strong and qualified women leaders who will fill the gap in Turkey and beyond.”

Finally, Harika Eldoğan, Marketing Director of Binance in Turkey, emphasized the project's goal of providing training to 5,000 women in 5 years. He commented: “We are working to expand the cryptocurrency ecosystem in Türkiye. Especially for us, it is very important to include young people and women in this ecosystem. “We support women in evaluating new opportunities on their journey to financial freedom and support their development in these areas.” Eldoğan added that the Binance Women in Technology Academy is both an educational program and a community-building initiative. Through this program, women working in different fields can meet, connect and share knowledge and experiences.

The program concluded with a graduation ceremony, during which more than 80 students received their certificates of completion and gift Lenovo tablets to support them throughout their educational and professional journey. Additionally, the Binance team demonstrated their support for the local Hatay community by donating 270 Ramadan food packets to families residing in the area's container town instead of hosting their annual iftar dinner in Istanbul. The container city, built by Needs Map, was built last year after the earthquake to house families who lost their homes, and was also where the educational series took place.
