The long-running legal battle between the SEC and Ripple just took a dramatic turn, with the regulatory watchdogs proposing $1.95 billion in penalties against the project.
According to a recent filing, the SEC has laid out a comprehensive breakdown of the proposed fines and disgorgement it believes Ripple should pay for its alleged violation of securities laws.
Nearly $2 billion is on the line, all because the SEC claims Ripple continued to sell its XRP tokens even after receiving legal warnings that such sales might constitute unregistered securities offerings.
