Nick Timiraos of the Federal Reserve News Agency wrote that the Federal Reserve's Kashkari recently said that he might support keeping interest rates unchanged at the next meeting to give officials more time to assess the impact of past rate hikes and the inflation outlook.
“I’m open to the idea that we could go a little slower (in the pace of rate hikes) from here on out,” he said in the interview.
Federal Reserve officials have hinted that their decision on whether to raise interest rates at their June 13-14 policy meeting could be a close call. A minority of Fed officials say the slowdown in inflation and economic activity is not yet enough to justify keeping interest rates unchanged. But others, including Fed Chairman Jerome Powell, have suggested they may pause to better study the potential lag effects of a rapid rate hike. (Jinshi)
