OMSK, May 18 - RIA Novosti. A resident of the Moscow region was sentenced by an Omsk court to 8 years and one month in prison for robbery, as well as extortion of bitcoins worth over 181 million rubles, the press service of the regional prosecutor's office said.

The court found that in August-September 2021, a 48-year-old resident of the Moscow region was in Omsk. He conducted surveillance of a local resident, suggesting that he had savings in bitcoins worth 181 million rubles. The man called him several times, threatened him and demanded that he transfer bitcoins to his crypto wallet. In November 2021, the criminal bought two stun guns in Moscow and, together with two accomplices, again came to Omsk and continued surveillance of the Omsk resident, planning to attack him.

At night on December 22, 2021, the accused and one of the accomplices, wearing masks and armed with stun guns, entered the house in which a family of three lived, among whom, as the attackers assumed, the owner of the bitcoins should have been. One of the residents of the house was able to fight back the attackers, which is why the latter fled the scene,” the department’s press service said. The organizer of the crime was found and detained. He did not admit guilt in committing the crime. A criminal case was opened under the article “robbery.” " and "extortion".

“The court sentenced him to 8 years and 1 month of imprisonment in a maximum security correctional colony, and also decided to recover 180 thousand rubles from him in favor of the three victims as compensation for moral damage caused,” the press service added.
