Welcome to the OpenSea Digest, our recap of the biggest NFT and web3 news from the week.

The Musée d’Orsay is currently hosting its first NFT exhibition

The first exhibition to feature blockchain technology at the Musee d’Orsay in Paris has just ushered in a new era in art.

Titled “Le Code d’Orsay,” the exhibition is curated by artist and DJ Agoria, and the novelty of the show is that it does not include any screens, but instead, “Sigma Lumina,” a steel sculpture that casts shadows of QR codes that unlock interactive, mintable art on the Tezos blockchain.

Meanwhile, another work in the series uses yeast cultures to interpret the life of French painter Gustave Courbet, divided into five unique stages that mimic the biochemical processes of microorganisms.

Agoria’s innovative fusion of art and technology challenges traditional perceptions of what an NFT artwork should look like, while adding experimental generative art to the Museum’s rich art history.

Autoglyphs Development Set Acquisition

On February 19, a set of 10 Autoglyphs by crypto-punk creator Larva Labs sold for 5,000 ETH, or about $14.536 million at the time of purchase, making the auction one of the largest on-chain digital art transactions to date.

This rare “development set,” comprised of artworks from early series, was reportedly purchased by an anonymous collector who intends to display the works in traditional art museum and institutional settings.

With the help of crypto art platform Fountain, Larva Labs recently donated Autoglyph#25and Cryptopunk#110to the Pompidou Museum of Modern Art in Paris.

Humanity Protocol Launches Privacy-Focused ZKP-Powered Palm Recognition Solution

The quest for non-invasive proof of humanity continues with Humanity Protocol, a cutting-edge palm recognition technology launched by AI identity organization Human Institute on the Polygon layer 2 (L2) chain and co-developed with leading web3 studio Animoca Brands, using zero-knowledge (ZK) proofs to perform secure identity checks while reducing data breaches.

Unlike Worldcoin, the iris-scanning biometric cryptocurrency project founded in 2019 by a team including OpenAI’s Sam Altman, Humanity Protocol uses palm recognition technology, which industry professionals describe as less invasive while still resistant to Sybil attacks (in which hackers flood a system with fake identities).

The Americana platform will be officially launched on February 28

Americana, a real-world asset management platform, has opened its doors to applicants who want to create digital twins of their rare artworks and collectibles.

Americana features blockchain-verified digital fingerprints, high-resolution surface topography, and 360-degree interactive models. Digital certificates of authenticity are accessible through a crypto wallet, helping collectors maintain an inventory of their real-life valuables. The platform leverages ERC-721A smart contracts to link physical items to their virtual counterparts, and there is also the option to store or “safekeep” physical items in a facility with 24-hour security.

While Americana is currently only open to newcomers on an approved basis, its goal is to open it to a wider range of collectors and objects as soon as possible, allowing everyone to obtain the items they value most.

Gmoney 9dcc Series 01 Debuts NFT Paris and Paris Fashion Week

Web3 fashion house 9dcc, the brainchild of NFT influencer gmoney, will present its first full luxury fashion collection at Paris Fashion Week and NFT Paris. Titled “9dcc Collection 01,” the debut collection will feature over 60 high-end pieces including coats, hoodies, blazers, trousers, and underwear made from globally sourced materials.

Each product integrates a near-field communication (NFC) chip that connects to the Ethereum NFT, thereby authenticating and adding unique digital features such as creator signatures and gamified experiences.

Inspired by Japanese Yakuza street style and classic gangster films, the series is described as a reflection of the “crypto thugs,” made up of the proud, messy degens (short for “degenerate”) and modern “mavericks” who make up the innovative world of web3.

Fittingly, gmoney’s NFC-enabled 9dcc apparel is unlike any fashion experience to date: blockchain-connected NFC chips can unlock memorable prizes and experiences, like a citywide scavenger hunt held during NFT NYC 2023 to give away the line’s newest ball caps, which also rewarded participants with a commemorative Proof of Presence Protocol (POAP) in addition to the latest fashion pieces.

Recently awarded Phygital Brand of the Year at the Phygicode Impact Awards during Davos 2024, 9dcc’s latest launch is reportedly part of the brand’s plan to expand its luxury product line in its catalog from 4,500 products to more than 20,000 luxury items.

Humpty Dumpty Penguin's new Humpty Dumpty toy line debuts at Walmart

Pudgy Penguins is expanding its presence in Walmart by 50%, from 2,000 stores when the brand initially launched to 3,100 stores, with plans to launch 30 different penguin toys, each reflecting an existing NFT.

Pudgy Penguin toys, which launch in September 2023 and cost between $2.99 and $11.97, feature a QR code that links to Pudgy World, a forthcoming interactive online experience.

This latest expansion reflects the brand’s growing popularity, which is not only a lovely move but also a huge validation for early backers.
