In Thailand, five Russians were suspected of extorting $900,000 in cryptocurrency.
Phuket provincial police have issued arrest warrants for five Russians suspected of kidnapping a couple in order to extort cryptocurrency. The Bangkok Post reported this.
A family from Belarus who became a victim of an attack contacted law enforcement officers. The incident occurred on January 29. They were returning from the store on a motorcycle when a group of men in a black Hyundai van blocked their way.
They forced the couple into a car and, under threats, forced them to transfer cryptocurrency worth more than $900,000. After that, they were released.
The victims claim that they do not know the attackers.
Police detained two suspects at Phuket International Airport, two at their place of residence on the island and another, the alleged organizer, at a massage parlor. All of them were questioned, but they denied involvement in the incident.
All five have now been arrested and the investigation continues.
