According to CoinDesk, the biggest upgrade that Ethereum developers plan to make this year, Dencun, has confirmed the date of the change on two key test networks in a blog post. Dencun is a major upgrade or "hard fork" of the Ethereum blockchain that will implement "proto-danksharding", a technical feature that will reduce the cost of layer 2 transactions and make data on the blockchain cheaper. Before triggering on the main chain, developers will rehearse the protocol changes on the Sepolia and Holesky test networks (testnets) on January 30 and February 7. Previously, the upgrade on the Goerli test network went live successfully last week, although there were some minor problems. Dencun will trigger Sepolia at 22:51 UTC and epoch 132608. If all goes according to plan, the final test of Dencun will be carried out on Holesky at 11:34 UTC on February 7, with epoch 950272. After that, developers will determine the launch date of Dencun on the Ethereum mainnet, and the goal is now late February or early March.
