According to PANews, Nigerian cryptocurrency activist and politician James Otudor has taken legal action to fight for Nigerians’ basic rights to own, use and trade Bitcoin, USDT and other cryptocurrencies.
Otudor announced the action in the X-post against the Nigerian President, the Minister of Finance, the Attorney General of the Federation, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Nigeria Police Force, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
Otudor said the hearing for the case began on August 9. He believes that the right to access Bitcoin and other digital assets has been seriously violated, and the Nigerian government and its agencies have forced telecommunications companies to block and restrict citizens' access to these assets.
He stressed that Bitcoin and other digital assets are important tools to protect savings from inflation and facilitate international transactions, especially in the context of the depreciation of the naira and foreign exchange shortages.
