According to Odaily Planet Daily, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) released the "Digital Economy Report 2024". The report pointed out that digitalization has promoted global economic growth, but has a serious impact on the environment.

The report mentioned that new technologies such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, 5G and the Internet of Things have increased greenhouse gas emissions. In 2022, the energy consumption of global data centers will be equivalent to that of France.

Bitcoin mining energy consumption increased by about 34 times between 2015 and 2023, putting enormous pressure on local power grids. For example, Singapore data centers accounted for 7% of electricity demand in 2020, and Ireland accounted for as much as 18% in 2022.
