Earlier this week, Julian Assange's wife Stella launched an "urgent appeal" to raise £520,000 to pay for Assange's private jet from the UK to Saipan and then to Australia, CoinDesk reported. One of the donors donated 8 Bitcoins, worth about $500,000. WikiLeaks co-founder Assange reached a plea deal with the US Department of Justice that earned him freedom after years of imprisonment in the UK. Initially, Assange's wife Stella launched an "urgent appeal" to raise £520,000 to pay for transportation costs and set up a crowdfunding page that allowed people to donate in fiat currency via credit card or bank transfer. Since the site obviously does not accept cryptocurrency donations, the family quickly set up another page to accept Bitcoin. So far, the Bitcoin address has received 34 donations totaling just over $500,000. However, the vast majority of donations came from that one donation of 8.07 BTC. The original fiat currency site also received about $500,000 in donations.
