According to Wu, Linea, a L2 network backed by Consensys, tweeted in support of StarkWare's statement and believed that zkSync developer Matter Labs should withdraw its ZK trademark application. Linea said that using a legal framework to claim ownership of a cryptographic fork used to develop a permissionless, decentralized L2 execution environment goes against Ethereum's principles and original intentions.
