According to Odaily Planet Daily, an attempt called OP_CAT to introduce Ethereum-like smart contract functions to Bitcoin eventually received the "BIP number" 347. This is the first step to actually launch the long-proposed software upgrade. Ethan Heilman, one of the co-authors, said in an interview: "Getting a BIP number does not mean that the community has reached any consensus. It just makes it easier to discuss and write software."
