According to Odaily Planet Daily, former nChain CEO Christen Ager-Hanssen was accused of violating the UK Company Law and instructing the crypto company to donate 70,000 pounds to the UK Conservative Party without shareholder authorization. In July 2023, Ager-Hanssen agreed to the donation while discussing the development of the "True Blue" application with senior Conservative Party officials. According to the Guardian, nChain learned of the donation after firing Ager-Hanssen in September 2023. A representative for nChain said that "the board of directors or shareholders did not approve the donation." The Guardian pointed out that this behavior may violate Section 366 of the UK Companies Act, which prohibits companies from "making donations or incurring political expenditures unless the transaction or expenditure is authorized by a resolution of company members."
