PANews January 10 news, according to The Block, Arbitrum DAO is currently conducting a public vote on an improvement proposal (AIP) aimed at transitioning Arbitrum One and Arbitrum Nova to the Bounded Liquidity Delay (BoLD) mechanism. Since April 2024, BoLD has been launched on the Arbitrum test network; it is an interactive fraud proof dispute protocol designed to enhance the security of various Arbitrum chains.
If the AIP is approved in the vote, BoLD will be implemented on Arbitrum One and Arbitrum Nova in February 2025. At that time, both chains will adopt a permissionless system, replacing the current whitelist validator system, allowing anyone to participate in network security. As of the writing of this article, the on-chain vote has received unanimous support from community members.
The BoLD mechanism will introduce a fixed time window to resolve disputes regarding the state of the Arbitrum chain, aimed at reducing the risk of delay attacks, which prevent malicious actors from undermining the system by intentionally prolonging the dispute resolution process. This time window is currently set to two challenge periods (approximately 13 days) and includes a two-day grace period for the Arbitrum Security Council to intervene if necessary. Additionally, another major highlight of BoLD is shifting the focus of disputes from individual validators to the deterministic execution of L2 states, allowing anyone to participate in the verification process.
