PANews, January 10th - According to Beijing Business Daily, on January 10th, the Ministry of Public Security held a press conference where spokesperson Zhang Ming introduced the telecom network fraud issues related to Myanmar's northern region that have attracted widespread attention. Since the deployment of a special operation against telecom network fraud related to Myanmar's northern region in July 2023, the Ministry of Public Security has leveraged the China-Myanmar law enforcement security cooperation mechanism to command police forces from multiple regions including Yunnan and Zhejiang to conduct joint operations and fully investigate cases. As of the end of 2024, over 53,000 Chinese nationals involved in fraud have been arrested, the notorious “Four Big Families” crime group in Myanmar's northern Kokang area has been completely dismantled, and large-scale tele-fraud parks near our border in Myanmar's northern region have all been eradicated. The special operation has achieved significant interim results, leading to a substantial decrease in the number of telecom network fraud cases and losses nationwide. Currently, cases involving the “Four Big Families” crime group have gradually entered the litigation stage.
Despite significant achievements in the fight against crime, the current crime situation remains severe and complex. This includes: an escalating arms race between attackers and defenders, and fraud groups using new technologies such as blockchain, virtual currency, and AI to continuously update and upgrade their criminal tools.
