According to venture capitalist Haseeb Qureshi, managing partner at Dragonfly Capital, AI agent tokens are expected to continue outperforming memecoins in 2025, although their momentum is likely to wane in 2026.
“Memecoin will continue to lose market share to AI agent tokens. I see this as a shift from financial nihilism to excessive financial optimism.”
Qureshi predicts that the AI agent craze will likely last until 2025, but it won’t last forever. As more advanced AI products emerge, interest in social media chatbots will wane.
“Ultimately, it will fade. This is not the long-term disruption to watch out for from AI, but merely a temporary concern due to its social nature.”
The emergence of AI chatbots and the decline of memecoins
AI chatbots have quickly become popular in the crypto industry, providing users with market price analyses and predictions. In the past 24 hours, the total trading volume of memecoins has decreased by nearly 21.5%, while the trading volume of AI tokens and leading data has increased by 7.95%.

The total market capitalization for leading AI and data tokens is currently reaching $54.4 billion, down 1.66% in the past 30 days. Meanwhile, the capitalization of memecoins has decreased even more, by up to 17.7% during the same period.
Risks to AI agents
However, Qureshi warns that tokens and AI agents may still face security risks.
“Current AI agents can easily be manipulated to make inappropriate statements, harming their brand, or even be hacked to steal entire assets.”
He also shared that one prominent AI chatbot, Aixbt, has demonstrated outstanding capabilities in synthesizing data from various projects. However, the long-term relevance of Aixbt and similar technologies remains uncertain.
“Next year, with the next generation of agents, Aixbt may be a little less 'hallucinatory', analyze a bit deeper, and have a little smarter insights. But how much can you actually recognize? Perhaps for most people, the feeling won't be much different,” Qureshi shared.
Forecast for 2026: Sudden reversal
Qureshi predicts that by 2026, there will be a “sudden reversal.”
“Crypto takes a while to get bored with shiny new things. At some point, chatbots will become so mainstream that people will feel bored. Sentiment will reverse.”
In the past week, the best-performing AI tokens among the top 100 cryptocurrencies include Virtuals Protocol (up 57.3%), Bittensor (up 10.6%), and Theta Network (up 6.11%).
Trader Mckenna is predicting the emergence of new investment opportunities related to AI in 2025, and encourages followers to pay attention to profit from these opportunities.
“We will see a whole new set of AI liquidity opportunities emerging by 2025. Pay attention, and you will be richly rewarded.”
Hunter Horsley, CEO of Bitwise, recently noted that the rise of AI agents is reminiscent of the beginning of the corporate era two centuries ago.
“I think this is completely analogous to the emergence of corporations in the 19th century: the ability to self-contract, hire personnel, own assets, and exist longer than humans.”
The development of AI agents is opening up new opportunities in the cryptocurrency industry; however, like any technological trend, significant market changes can bring about unpredictable fluctuations.
