Video footage and pictures shared online showed that as the American people reunited, four places, including the U.S. Capitol, the Washington Memorial, 1 World Trade Center in New York City, and the Empire State Building, were struck by lightning. Thousands of people flocked to Times Square in New York to witness the landmark fall. In response, some Trump supporters speculated on social media that this was a will from God. U.S. Senator Mike Lee of Utah called the lightning on New Year's Eve "a sign." Christian Ziegler, a Trump supporter and former Republican National Convention delegate, also said: "The U.S. Capitol building was struck by lightning and is about to usher in the arrival of 2024. But some people believe that this is a bad start for the United States in 2025.
