On Wednesday, December 25 local time, Russian Finance Minister Siluanov stated that Russian enterprises have begun using Bitcoin and other digital currencies in international payments.

Russia has relaxed restrictions on cryptocurrencies this year, allowing not only the use of cryptocurrencies in foreign trade but also legalizing cryptocurrency mining.

Russia proposed a complete ban on cryptocurrencies in 2022, believing that such assets could undermine the stability of financial markets. One of the main reasons for such a significant shift by the country is to respond to Western sanctions.

Western sanctions have made trade between Russia and its main trading partners more complicated, as local banks are very cautious in transactions involving Russia to avoid scrutiny from Western regulators.

Siluanov stated in a media interview on Wednesday: 'Under the experimental regulatory framework, we can use the Bitcoin mined in Russia for foreign trade transactions.'

He added: 'Such transactions are already taking place. We believe this method of transaction should be further expanded and developed. I believe there will be greater progress next year.'

Siluanov also stated that using digital currencies for international payments represents the direction of future development.

Earlier this month, Russian President Putin stated that the current U.S. government uses the dollar for political purposes, undermining the dollar's status as a reserve currency and forcing many countries to turn to other assets.

Putin cited Bitcoin as an example, stating that no one in the world can regulate Bitcoin.

Glassnode: The severity of market pullbacks during the Bitcoin bull market is gradually weakening.

On-chain analytics company Glassnode disclosed data showing that although significant upward price movements during Bitcoin bull markets are usually accompanied by extreme selling pressure, as the market expands, the severity of market pullbacks during each bull market rise gradually weakens. The deepest pullback in this cycle occurred on August 5, 2024, with a decline of 32%. During most pullbacks, Bitcoin prices only fell below local highs by 25%, indicating that the volatility in this cycle is among the lowest to date. This may reflect the opening of a huge demand window with the launch of spot ETFs, while institutional investors' interest is also continuously growing, with the majority of short-term holders' supply (in terms of coin count) operating 'underwater' relative to their cost basis, but they have not suffered extreme unrealized losses associated with market deterioration.

MicroStrategy increases its Bitcoin holdings, Bitcoin still struggles to regain upward momentum.

Although MicroStrategy (MSTR.O) announced its increased Bitcoin holdings and plans to hold a special shareholder meeting to vote on a proposal for further purchases of this cryptocurrency, Bitcoin still struggles to regain significant upward momentum. The software company stated on Monday that it raised approximately $561 million by issuing new shares to purchase Bitcoin as it joined the Nasdaq 100 index last week. The company plans to hold a shareholders' meeting to seek approval for issuing new shares to buy more Bitcoin. Market analysis platform Forex Analytix stated in a report that this could be a short-term profit-taking.
